Description:

SAO Oasis seen outbound Rotterdam after unloading ore at the EMO Maasvlakte. She is one of the guaibamax vessels which are operating regularly between Brazil and China. In rare cases they also come to Rotterdam. And this is currently happening more often. Who knows how it will develop in the future...

Very interesing to see the large amount of ballast water which the ship has inside. The freight spaces are empty but she has a draft of over 15m. I could also observe this with other bulkers of this size while leaving Rotterdam.

The large amount of ballast for ore carriers in general may have got people thinking a long time ago and then the concept of the ore/oil carrier was developed, whereby the ballast tanks could carry significant amounts of crude oil. Although once rather popular as it could reduce empty repositioning trades, the concept has hardly been applied in the 21st century.
