The Greek owned IONIC , managed from London by Orient Mid-East (UK) Ltd - until 1972 from New York by Eagle Ocean Transport Inc. (Nicholas M.Lyras) - was built by Wm.Denny at Dumbarton in 1957. She is seen arriving at Liverpool from Veraval in India via Nantes, exactly fifty years ago today, on 20th May 1974, with a cargo of Indian rice bran and groundnut extractions - her Liverpool port agents were E.W.Turner.

In the Indian Ocean during 13-19 June 1975, on her first voyage as UNITED WARRIOR, from South East Asia to Jeddah with a cargo of cement, she suffered heavy weather damage; On 1.7.75, on arrival at Jeddah, she was beached, leaking, on Abu Sayf Reef; on 11.7.75, she slipped off the reef and sank.
