History:
This 37-meter-long steam trawler was launched on June 27, 1911 and christened Lord Tweedmouth. "Two years later, she was renamed Lord Grey, after the former British Foreign Secretary," explains the blog Mon p'tit bonheur à la Côte d'Opale.
In 1915, the ship was requisitioned by the British Army for use as a mine-clearing vessel. She was assigned to the famous Dover Patrol, based in Dunkirk and Dover, whose mission was to prevent the passage of German warships through the English Channel.
In December 1917, a storm raged and the Lord Grey was battered by the waves. John Bilsborough, the stoker, was the only casualty. Still visible a century later, the wreck is overgrown with seaweed, mussels and crustaceans. A 20th-century relic worth discovering!
