Towed to breakers at Aliaga Mar 30, 2014.

I sailed on her in August 2012. I am extremely sorry to see her end this way. She was a fine lady and a piece of British maritime history. I never imagined that she would meet her demise in this way. I never say this unless a ship is truly special, but she should have been preserved. She is just as important as Queen Elizabeth 2 and Rotterdam. At least her sister still lives on as Golden Iris for Mano Maritime. RIP Ocean Countess!!!!

I sailed on her when she was the CUNARD COUNTESS, in July 1984. She was my second 7 day cruise.

What a depressing sight...:-(
I share crazyboutships opinion, she'll be gone to the scrapyard soon.
Apropos scrapyard... Cora (IMO 7048936, another ex-Cunarder) is on her way to Alang as it seems. She left Eleusis Bay where she's been laid-up since 2011 with destination Dubai...

All I know is all crew that were onboard her were all accounted for her she was meant to go on charter to a Russian operater but due to this tragedy her future is uncertain but most likely a scrapyard at Aliaga or Alang

It's so sad to see this Danish-build ship in these conditions :-(

I remember seeing her in Copenhagen in the summer of 2010 for the first time... Although I'm more into the new generation of cruise ships, she impressed me.

Does anyone know what started the fire? And if there were any casualties?
