Soren thank you for yhout kind words and your interesting opinions and questions...i ve wondered all these myself too (for example if i m starting acting like alder generations-i m 36 years old-, by rejecting everything new and being bonded to everything old)...but i wanna believe i balance my taste between retro and new, in every genre, from cars and cinema, to ships...ok for the last i m not that sure, lol :p

Oh and Roy - I almost forget to mention it... :-O

This is a another stunning and really awesome shot from you! You are lucky to have this great place for photographing the ships ;-) Good job as always!

Best regards,
Søren

Shaun: I'm in the exactly same boat as you - I love her design! ;-) Generally I'm more into the new generation of cruise ships, than I'm into the older and classic ones...
Don't get me wrong though - I think Norwegian EPIC is just as awful to look at as the rest of You!

I guess the matter of taste will be a neverending debate, and I guess we will never agree too. I just know the fact, that the classic curves and lines of the older vessels seems to be gone for good, as they are never being build anymore! They belong to a time that has passed... The demands have changed. The same evolution has happened to the cars...

Actually I think it could be a Little fun to know, if those who likes the older and classic cruise liners also prefer the older and classic cars?

Btw - funny idea with the "Vessel Beauty Awards" :-P
I would love to know who should be in the jury and make the decisions of who the prices goes to :-D Hopefully it will be fair ;-)

Thanks Jens!
Shaun, thats a fact, Fantasia is much better looking than Norwegian Tragic...but its stil box-shaped..and all these balconies dont help at all.

Decks above the bridge can make or spoil the appearance. Norwegian Epic is completely wrecked by these decks, probably as they are not nice and streamlined. This is probably one of the reasons why MSC Fantasia is fantastic, because of her streamlined upper decks.

Wow, after reading the last three comments I'm feeling younger than ever... damn, where's my teething rattle???

Nice shot, Roy!

Young!

I am honoured.

Well if it's acceptable to label those who like their ships to have curves, sheer, tumblehome and otherwise not look like a painted floating brick a "bunch of old duffers", then surely it's acceptable to label those whose heart quickens at the sight of the above vessel as "daft young fools who don't know any better".
Also you don't laundry your clothes in a sink, you do it in a tin bath or basin within the local laundry house (known as a steamie in this part of the world).

They're a bunch of old duffers Shaun. Stuck in a time warp where they go home and sit in front of the wireless whilst their wives do the laundry in the sink and rinse it through the mangle. Personally, I like modern cruise ships, modern cruising and a modern way of life

Of course I love you all really :-)

@Shaun Smith Milne: of course its a matter of taste but for many here its a kind of law: too many decks and balconies affect a vessel's appearance....in the same way that too many extra kgr's affect a persons sex appeal.

I love this design of cruise ship. most of you seem to hate it, what is it about her you do not like?

Hmmmm hard to tell...I d choose aqua spirit from ferries an a veteran like albatros from cruisers..

IMPRESSIVE !!
I completely agree with you, Roy & Mr.DOT.
F/B AQUA SPIRIT is much "cuter" and also much more beautiful than this monster
If you organize an beauty award in Santorini, I will probably choose F/B ADAMANTIOS KORAIS or F/B AGIOS GEORGIOS (if she comes to Santorini in 2014 [?]) ;-)
Greetings,
Florian

I guess it's a candidate for 'beauty and the beast' mrdot.

Aqua Spirit is 4+ times smaller in length but also 4 times more charming!
