Søren, thank you once again, you're too kind. I really like (and share) your enthusiasm for modern cruise ships!:-)

Excellent nightshot of this marvellous vessel ;-)
Very well done - and quite impressive having in mind, that you didn't use a tripod, but only your bare hands!

Thanks for sharing ;-)

Best regards
/Søren

I dont want this to go any further. Please do not leave because I sounded off. I just rue the progression and I use the word tongue in cheek of naval architecture. The shot by Rene with that old German freighter with the wonderful stern is what I love to see. I know it aint gonna happen no more and to moi that is sad but life goes on.

Denis, seaweasel, I agree. Having said that I think that this discussion should stop here as I don't think that it is appropriate to discuss this via photo comments and I will delete every further comment dealing with that subject. Thanks for your understanding!

And Denis... thank you for your compliment!:-)

Cheers,
Jens

Agreed with seaweasel. I don't see how users freely sharing their sometimes creative opinions makes this site to deteriorate. Better to know that I'm not the only one who thinks this or that looks like another kettle carrier, rather than seeing a row of "Great/Superb/Awesome/Fantastic/Nice/Beautiful/Excellent/Marvelous/etc shot! Regards." comments. I mean, every uploader of course would like to hear some compliment for their photo, but sometimes it's just too obvious the photo is great/superb/nice/etc that I would need to come up with some new words or make it in a way I don't simply copypaste my similar comment from another photo... Or I can just make some opinion about the ship's appearance instead!
Not sure why would an author be offended by "what an ugly ship!" to the point he would leave the site because it's "deteriorating"?

Nice shot! / Kind regards! :D

Some people like this ship, others don't...where is the problem ?? Let's be happy, that there is more than one opinion and more than one taste ! And : This site is still excellent and we should all strive to SUPPORT it by contributing our photos and opinions.

Best regards seaweasel

Unfortunately comments like these show that this ships spotting site has deteriorated. I for one reluctantly may no longer post any more photos. Sorry however this is the way I feel, it was a great site which I used to enjoy - sadly no longer.

I didn't get you wrong, becky, thanks. But like mumbles said...

Denis, don't carry it too far! :-D

How about a kettle carrier then? :D

Becky: you are becoming a bit boring about cattle carriers

Edit
comment

Dont get me wrong Jens. Nothing to do with the photography it is an excellent shot but of a cattle carrier

Beautiful vessel, does not look at all like a livestock carrier!

Hi tom400 and becky, I must say that I am completely fed up with the constant ranting about "human livestock carriers"!

I fully agree with mumbles' and Cornelia's opinion given here:
http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2143945

Nevertheless, thanks tom400, for the compliment.

Cheers,
Jens

To Tom400 you are right -it is a cattle carrier

Very nice shot.

The ship however looks like a livestock vessel to me. It is planned to let her operate out of Shanghai to capture the gambling money from the Chinese newly rich people. As a new, special feature she carries an observation capsule which carries 14 people and lift them over the edge of the ship or up to 90m high. We I saw the ship first at Stadersand, Elbe, I thought this may be a special mast which can be tilt. Which exitement comes next?

Two superb photos Jens, well done!

Jens: Brilliant photo, well done!
Jadran: totally agree. My theory is that Meyer has developed a "platform" which they can adjust for different owner. If I look at the QUANTUM, I see a hull shape, a bow and middle superstructure that look very much the same as those same areas on the NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY and GETAWAY. The bridge area, top decks and stern are totally different of course, those are tailored to Royal Caribbean's requests.

It is coming now to my eyes,, that all the new generation mega size cruisers from Meyer Neptun Papenburg (the Builder) are starting to look MORE & MORE THE SAME one to another.
Am I maybe mistaken in my view ............ !??
Kind regards (J)

Denis, thank you, too. You're compliment is much appreciated after I "tortured" you all (if unintentionally) for weeks with the same two photos on the home page:-))

Hello Jadran, thank you for posting such a delightful comment on one of my rare attempts of night photography:-)

To be frank, I only changed the ISO setting (pushed it to 3200), otherwise the camera was on automatic mode. The exif-data says "exposure time 1/13" if that helps.

All the best,
Jens

Hi Marco, thank you very, very much! I wasn't sure if this would turn out all right. Sunset was at 6.08 pm today (not that we had any sunshine here today) and this one was taken at 6.35, free-hand, as I don't own a tripod.

Cheers,
Jens
