Hi Rico! I spent several Trips as apprentice and some voyages as ship mechanic on her (together with Arend). Must have been around 1990 to 1993. I enjoyed your wheelhouse-picture from her last day under german flag - great job, there is no difference to be seen after 20 years of service! Today i regret that i didn't make some more pictures when i was sailing on her.
All the best,
Stefan

Hi Rico, then you made quite a historic trip aboard her! Knowing that you seem to possess the last photos of her under German flag. I like this one a lot;

Hi Stefan, nice to see an other member of Wegener. What was your function on board. I made an apprenticeship for ship mechanic. I accompanied her to Gdanks where she was sold in February 2013. That was my last voyage for Wegener and last voyage of Carina under German Flag. She is a beatifull vessel, like all Wegener-vessels. I hope to see her some day, somewhere.

Kind Regards
Rico

Moin Stefan, only last year she has been renamed, but I think she's roaming the Mediterranean instead of the North sea and the Baltic for a while longer. In fact, back in 2009 was the only time I got her in front of my camera. Again, I'm happy she brought back nice memories:-)

And thank you all guys for your discussions about the hatch covers. As I didn't know that I learnt something new today:-)

Cheers,
Jens

The hatch cover layout had one big Advantage for the deck Crew - you don't have ask on the Bridge which side would be alongside - besides some times in the Kiel canal always port!

Those hatch covers opening to sides - pretty unique, never saw such before! :O

Moin Jens! Havn't seen at once, that your Picture was already an older one. I even didn't notice before, that Wegener sold the "Carina". Anyway - your photo really brought back a whole bunch of nice memories - thanks a lot for that!
@Jadran: The hatch cover arrangement was really an interesting design of McGregor-Navire. It was some kind of test construction, as far as i remember. When necsessary, it allowed to use practically the whole available deck lenght for stowage of 45-foot Containers. In practice it turned out to be a bit tricky here and there but it made her definitely a unique vessel.
By the way, further info (in german language) at: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corina_(Schiff)

Hi Stefan,, I'm pleased to say that your comment brought my full attention :-)
Notwithstanding the good general appearance of this "really lovely little ship",, I however come to conclude that the most interesting feature of this ship are her SIDE OPENING HATCHCOVER PANELS that rotate clockwise to their vertical / 90 degree position when fully opened !

Hi Stefan, nice to see that the photo brought back some memories. Judging from her most recent photos here on Shipspotting taken in May this year, she's still looking good:-)

Cheers,
Jens

Wow! I spent more then two years on her when she was brand new. Good to see, she is still a very nice one. Only here side opening hatch covers were a bit arkward.

Stefan
