It seems the St John sustained serious machinery damage and put into Fort Dauphin for repairs on 29 October but the following day in stormy weather and heavy seas her anchor chain parted and she drifted ashore.

Thank you all for trying to establish the identity of this ship, which "dedge" found out quite quickly, she is still in Bristol City Line colors in the picture I suppose this was her first trip under her new name?

This is the St John, ex Bristol City Line's Gloucester City. On 30 October 1968 she broke her moorings in heavy weather and was wrecked at Fort Dauphin while en route Montreal to Djakarta.

When was this taken?

The farthest piece of wreckage here looks like the same ship. Taken 2001.
