Guinea Gulf Line and Elder Dempster were both members of the same Liverpool-based shipowning group (Ocean Transport & Trading). Inter-group transfers were common and FREETOWN was registered to Guinea Gulf Line 1967-1972. The builders were at that time known as Lithgows Ltd, of Port Glasgow
