WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
I am still searching for the IMO number of "Alpha Freedom", a 180,380 DWT bulk carrier shown here under construction at Hyndai Samho shipyard in Mokpo. However, it's probably the vessel behind that is more interesting: UASC's "Barzan", officially 18,800 TEU vessel, whose actual TEU capacity is yet to be revealed, and will possibly end the (short) reign of "MSC Oscar" as the world's highest TEU capacity container carrier.

Yes, you and Vlad are right.
The lashing bridge are one tier higher than on CSCL GLOBE. Also, the wheelhouse has got one extra floor. The 20,000 TEU capacity everybody expects will for sure come from an extra layer of empties.
Greetings to Korea and Brazil from France!
Herbert

Yes indeed I believe she's the same as the CSCL Globe and sisters.
Tough, difficult to see, if the lashing-bridge configuration is altered, i.e. more high for sure they will advertise her with a higher capacity (same as with Sajir).
Then, as you know, all of the big ones are more or less the same; 24 boxes (40ft) long and 23 wide. Only the 20000 plus ones are getting a bigger depth (holte) as far as I know.
Many greetings Herbert.
Cheers,
Roy

The imo for ALPHA FREEDOM = 9722364.
Nice comparison between the Cape and the boxship.
There were times when Capesizes were bigger :-)
However, BARZAN looks like a sister of CSCL Globe.
Even the website of HSHI suggests 18800 TEU.
Guess UASC's marketing department will think otherwise...
Keep up the good show Vlad!

Herbert

First picture of the Barzan.
I indeed guess they will 'upgrade' the TEU capacity.
Keep them coming Vlad.
Cheers,
