Description:

At the beach from the Yasmin hotel in Hurghada/ Egypt. They told me it was an russian hydrofoil vessel, but nobody know it exactly. Any infos wellcome. Scanned from a picture which was made in 1999.

This is a "Raketa" type hydrofoil. Several have been built and in service in the USSR. Also several in Greece. I travelled many times with one back and forth from Aegina to Piraeus. Very nice trips.

Kometa's in Egypt include:

DAHAB-NUWEIBA ex-UGUR ex-KOMETA M (IMO 7517208). 1977 to Egypt as UGUR; 1985 Gulf of Aqaba service between Dahab and Nuweiba. Then??

This one taken a year earlier has some clearer numbering on the fin

I think if you zoom the photo you can read "UGUR" on the tail fin... Maybe this will help ?

Two Russian-built hydrofoils once ran to Abu Simbel. Mothballed for financial reasons. They came eventually 1978 to egypt, when the russians built the Aswan dam.
