The chain of responsibility runs deep..The Captain of any ship is responsible for every ones actions at sea..and ultimately the actions and consequences of the crew..not all captains are sea-wise and responsible..

I'm with Captain Ted on this.
If the Captain was so inept...how much more so were his employers?
How much more so, the licensing/qualifying agencies whereby Schettino obtained his qualifications?
How many more qualified "Schettino's" are there, out there...in charge of similar vessels?

But, my answer your question Captain Ted: "He abandoned his charges". Unforgivable.

Question:was only the Captain brought to court and subsequently to jail ?
After all what happened to the officer of the watch who in reality grounded the vessel. He never saw the inside of a court room ?
