Dave W,
The US Marines were initially interested in doing the same to either the former LONGSTONE/BEACHY HEAD (sisterships of HARTLAND POINT) when the former two were placed up for sale following defence cutbacks.

Very useful link Stefan...Thanks.

These ships seems very capable of carrying out naval roles. The US Navy MSC are spending $73 million converting the "Cragside" another standard Flensburger vessel into a special forces mothership

Of the 69 photos of this ship on the site, four are filed under "Auxiliaries", the rest as RoRos. Since it is in civilan livery and does not have a grey funnel, I think it should be classed as a RoRo.

Hi there! The design of those vessels based on the standard RoRo-2700 from Flensburger but was adapted for navy use in large extend.
See further info at:

She isn't a standard Ro-Ro, although she is a development of a commercial Flensburger design to Navy specifications with reference to damage stability and specialist cargo requirements.
Together with her 3 sisters she's long term charter to the UK MOD, with her British crew all holding reserve ranks in the Royal Navy.
All four ships are part of the UK Joint Rapid Reaction Force.

Very valid point, Capt Ted

Why listed as auxillerie ? I mean she is clearly a ro-ro,,may be chartered,,but that makes her a Navy vessel and a re-classification ?

This ship is on long-term charter to the British Ministry of Defence
