Hi Jad,that square bulbous bow reminds me of the square toes shoes we used to wear in our youth, the time of the Beatles, drain pipe trousers,cord knit ties.etc.....ah..memories of past times long gone forever.regards.

@ Denis, Jim and Brett
Canmar Venture (and her several sisters) were owned by Canada Maritime, UK for service to the Great Lakes.
Probably,, that type/form of the bulb was "tailored to plow" through the icy waters of the Great Lakes.
In any case,, that bulb was coated with the ice-resistant coating (resistant to mechanical damages caused by hard ice) called GLASSFLAKE;
Best regards to all / Jadran

Is CanMar Canada Maritime ? No it is not to save money (the resultant negative impact on fuel consumption would far outweigh the "saving"). These bulb designs are unusual but not uncommon.

I think it's to save money-No plate bending machines required-Koreans do the same-A lot faster

Interesting photo, Jadran.
I think the discussion in http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2368410#comments would be relevant even here.
Maybe you could try explaining her bulb shape?

If you look at picture on here of IBLA - IMO 8416748, almost identical bulb shape
