Don't deride certain far Eastern countries and companies my friends, in my 43 years working in a dockyard I have seen worst maintained ships than this one , one in particular by a European country was the veritable rust bucket, at one time we were trying to open up a fuse box on the bridge with a large hammer and chisel and when the hammer slipped from my hand, it fell right through the floor onto the deck below, unbelievingly .whilst on the other hand the best kept ship was an old liberty vessel of about 40 years was spic and span just like a show vessel. Simply to say the old engine room shining and no dust or grime accumulation and she was registered and crewed by a Indonesian company and crew.

Every ship has a classification (technically they don,t need, but without charterers and insurances will not insure or charter the ship) This class is first time issued as Certificate of Class when the ship is new,, it is 5 years valid. during this 5 years 3 annual surveys and one intermediate survey is carried out. Then the the 5th annual survey is also the "renewl survey of the class certificate. hence this ship,, built in 2006 is now 10 years old and therefore must make the class renewal for the next 5 years. As the passing of 10 years is considered as the threshold of "getting" old for a ship this survey is usually very thorough and accurate and because of that not really the favords of capts and/or engineers

Hi MattyBoy,
what i meant is that Maersk Roubaix is due to perform her next class survey in november.

What does 'class renewal' mean?

Hi Volker!
Built in China, Manager in Mumbai and Owner in Hong Kong ist all true but still she is not chartered but a sole Maersk-Vessel. But she is due for class renewal in november. There is a good chance she might be not such an eyesore next year ;-)
So long,
Stefan
