I would not wonder if she is a long time out of a charter. Nobody wants these size and type of ships anymore. also when rather young she is outdated material !!!!!

Now that the new Panama locks are up and running, there can't be much demand for (old) Panamax types - never mind the slump in container traffic.

That's amazing optimism, Mr Seaway, or do you know something that the rest of us don't?

She will get another charter but the rate wont be as good as the Hanjin rate.

Thanks Phil and Tropic, yes I did hear it talking to Melb VTS today asking for permission to paint so they could paint out the HANJIN and now due to depart Melbourne anchorage at 2300 tonight.

Unfortunately age counts for nothing in an already over-saturated charter market, especially for standard panamaxes such as this. My guess is that she'll head for the lay up anchorages at Singapore or Malaysia.

Incidentally "Rickmers" are not in trouble. Only the separate stock-listed arm, Rickmers Maritime, have reported financial difficulties, which seem to be in the process of being resolved.

Just to add, now showing just MILANO on the AIS.

Nice series today Paul.

Not sure that it'll be that easy for the MILANO. Rickmers are not all that healthy at the moment either and Panamax box ships are not the flavour of the month at present.

tropic

Hi Allan I think it will find another charter its got age on its side its only 7 years old so basically a new vessel.

No doubt she'll revert to her former Rickmers name and hopefully find a further charter (although in the present climate I doubt it)

Thanks Cody, but a sad series of shots of it departing its future unknown and that of the crew. Its now at anchor in Port Phillip Bay with the crew doing some painting which could be the HANJIN being painted out.
