In that case, my apologies to Miramar. And for getting my Cuba's mixed up.

Not that CUBA - images as CARACAS, DENALI and SOUTHERN CROSS all show different ship layout: http://www.photoship.co.uk/JAlbum%20Ships/Old%20Ships%20D/slides/Denali-04.jpg

This is the earlier CUBA, built for P&O 1921 by William Cramp & Sons, Philadelphia (Yd 505) and owned by them until 1947, then PACE > SASSARI and broken up in 1962.

Hi again Fred,

Found a good photo of CUBA, again undated ...

http://www.timetableimages.com/maritime/images/penocc-1.htm

And query my previous comment about her short-lived spell as CUBA, possible inaccurate source info (from Miramar).

What do you think ?

Regards
Neil

Hello Fred,

Way out of my comfort zone here, but could not resist the challenge. Based on the following clues :

a) Enlarged, the name on the bow appears to be four letters

b) the funnel colours seem to match those of the Peninsular & Occidental SS Co http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us~hfpa.html

c) the vessel illustrated in this postcard
https://www.floridamemory.com/items/show/269733

then I would propose the CUBA, built at Newport News in 1927 as CARACAS. A pity the postcard in c) is not dated as she only carried the name CUBA in 1955.

Anybody got a photo for more accurate comparison ?

Regards from Liverpool, England
Neil
