Description:

The Norwegian tanker GORM was photographed passing Portishead, inbound for Avonmouth, on 6th December 1966, fifty years ago today. Built at Gothenburg in 1952, she was owned by Skibs A/S Gylfe (Eiv. Evensen) of Oslo

Later: 1968 ATLAS ENTERPRISE - 72 ZONDA - 77 AROSA

She finally arrived at Kaohsiung on 30th September 1977 to be broken up.

Thanks for the observation. As ZONDA, owned by the Paris based P.G.Troianos, she had called at Liverpool in July 1974 (in poor condition)and then at Avonmouth and Greenock in February 1975 with cargoes of molasses, then laid up at Piraeus. She resumed trading on 22nd March 1977 as AROSA, but soon sailed to the breakers at Kaohsiung. The last large tanker operated by Troianos was the slops tanker LESTE, the former BRITISH SIGNAL, scrapped at Barcelona in 1984.

Most of these ended as rustbuckets under an obscure flag and/or management, but in their prime these were really elegant ships.
