GERASIMOS - IMO 7011230

My research:

The "Gerasimos" had capsized on Mar 1, 2012, loaded with about 1,000 tons of ore, at the quay in the port of Platyliali Astakos.

Following an international tender five years later, the Spanopoulos Group was commissioned to lift and remove the shipwreck and clean up the sinking site.

The group used the demolition barge "Atlantis I" with a total lifting capacity of 1800 tons, the sheerleg "Ignatios X" with a 120-tons lifting capacity, the tug "Christos XXII" and an auxiliary craft.

Throughout the lifting of the wreck, all measures for the protection of the marine environment have been taken by the installation of floating dams of sufficient size around the wreck.

The "Atlantis 1" was moored perpendicularly to the length of the wreck and, with ballast pumped into its tanks, acquired the required draft for the lifting operation. The wreck was moved onto the sunken barge with the floating crane.

The barge was then gradually lifted to the surface of the water again and the shipwreck was safely fixed onto the barge deck. Then it was transported from the Platygali terminal of Astakos port to the Spanopoulos yards in Ampelakia, Salamis.

By Jan 2, 2018, the barge "Atlantis 1" with the wreck of the "Gerasimos" bottom up on deck was being berthed in Perama, Piräus, waiting for the removal of its cargo.

The vessel was scrapped in 2019.

Under repair? Most probably earmarked for scrapping.
Overturned while loading or unloading at Platigiali port on the first of March 2012.
