Type: STEREGUSHCHIY, project 1175. Builder:Valmet Helsingin Telakka( Hietalahti shipyard also known as Helsinki New Shipyard in Hietalahti, Helsinki, Finland.(Yard#198) Date of
completion:02.1959,home port:Kaliningrad / 01.01.1979 - "OSTROV SIBIRYAKOVA" - "Ostrov Russkiy" type fish carrier,-IMO: 6905783, Yard No. 1110, built in 1969, port of registry - Riga.
On January 01, 1979 while in tow by tugs "Vilnis" http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2924509 and "Slavnyy" from Goteborg to Riga fish carrier "Ostrov Sibiryakova" and also tug "Slavnyy" run aground in rough weather near south-eastern Sweden. 57 crew members from both vessels was evacuated by swedish helicopters. On board of fish carrier remained only four persons. During inspection were found that cargo hold #3, both deep tanks, all double bottom tanks and also pipe tunnel were flooded. But after intensive works leaks in the hold #3 were removed and on January 17 started refloating of the vessel. Only on January 20 "Ostrov Sibiryakova" with help of five tugs was pulled out from the shore. On January 25 she anchored in Klaipeda. Hietalahti shipyard was owned by Wärtsilä, not Valmet. This ship was probably built at Valmet's yard in Katajanokka.

What was the incident?, incidentally it looks more like the Arctic sea than the North sea. She looks like she is a ocean going tug. Thanks for sharing Gena.
