Well manuscan, being a command vessel she needs a lot of antennas to keep in touch or retrieve intelligence from the airwaves.

Same objects seems to be on deck, down the starboard wing.

Thanks Christian , but you got to admit from afar they look like carley floats. Thanks my friend for clearing it up for MattyBoy and also me.
Due thanks and best regards

MattyBoy - Emmanuel.L : the 3 objects under the lower bridge are not "Carley Float" and nothing to do with raft for rescue - it's antenna

Thanks for shedding some light on the question of her use and function. Whether an amphibious command ship is a landing ship or not is probably a question of semantics, I guess. It seems that more than anything she is a floating computer.

Hey MattyBoy I think they are rafts for rescue, what they used to call as "Carley Floats".These days there are more of the inflatable ones, so they could also be something else, maybe some member is more knowledgeable than me.

Malim, she is a landing ship, but she is also a command ship, a command ship could be a cruiser .a large supply ship etc. It is the time, situation etc . that the high command denotes a ship to be used as such.
regards.

This isn't a landing ship but instead a command ship, indeed she's the flagship/command ship of the US 6th Fleet. As well as accommodating the Admiral of the 6th Fleet and his staff, she also serves as a communications hub.
She doesn't carry troops/landing craft etc so doesn't participate in amphibious operations.

What are the 3 objects under the lower bridge windows?

A landing ship these days is not like it was during WW2 with a ramp to land tanks and troops direct onto enemy shores, but these vessels have troops and equipment ready on board to combat any urgent need, they also are used as a command vessel in such situations.
