I saw this one off Singapore several times between March and May 1992. I'm sure it's IMO 7045516, which was renamed ATLANTIC ISLE in 1987. Several painted-over letters of "Atlantic" and "sl" of "Isle" are visible on the bow.

David, your missing MN copies also do not contain any reference to Hamiliah, or Kowloon or Mania I. I checked the first six month of 1990 too, no luck.

ex-Atlan Zafiro in 2001. Pretty similar, me thinks.

The HALIMIAH reference is not in the 1989 Marine News copies I have, but I am missing June, September and December (and I do not have the Annual Index)

It may not be the same ship, but it is clear enough to me that the name on this one is "Pioneer", rather than "Power". The latter exists online only in that JOC reference (plus a repeat of that that I cannot find again) so may just be an editorial error).

LR 1993-4 Supplement has amendment "3500427 - LILYMOO ex-SARATOGA PIONEER ex-SANTIAGO II, Maldives flag", and she was in that year's register as SARATOGA PIONEER (though I have not seen that). I will ask my LR contacts to see, when they are able, whether the 1992-3 files reveal more, and what details were actually in the SARATOGA PIONEER entry.

Also I note that KOWLOON was also listed as Honduras flag from 1990 (eventually deleted from LR as "existence in doubt". It's unfortunate that the two photos are from opposite sides, but I cannot see any differences that could not have resulted a few years bumping around then South China Sea - and plenty of time for a few more name changes in early 1993.

Thanks David, but as the picture was taken around May 1992, it might not apply to the ship shown here.

The IMO number is genuine, in the sense that it was issued as such by LR at the request of the Honduran Register in 1993, but without sufficient for LR to either identify whether she had a previous IMO number or had definitely never had one. Her sale and early loss, within the same year, probably made further investigation unneccesary.

35xxxxx numbers (this was only the 42nd issued) were usually converted into definitive numbers fairly quickly and did not usually appear in the printed register.

Frafo, the picture I was referring too.

Frafo, the picture of Atlan Turquesa that I have (as Norfolk Trader) clearly is a good match. So most likely after KOWLOON she adopted 3 more names before finally dying. Sisterships ATLAN DIAMANTE and ATLAN ZAFIRA are both accounted for and cannot be the ship in the picture.

I think she is the 7045516, last known as KOWLOON.
On 05.03.1992 I saw her in same position and registered her as ex-Halimiah.
I remember as Halimiah she was listed 1989 in Marine News Casualties , including a photo of her.
Built 1971 by Duro Felguera at Gijon (62) under the name Atlan Turquesa.

Peter, I had her name as Saratoga Pioneer, and then Lilymoo, under which name she burned out. I think this came form a report in Marine News. That, and the year of built and the GT are the only info I could ever find. The IMO number given here is rather unlikely. Perhaps she was one of the first Chinese built ships going for export?

I think the name of this ship should read "SARATOGA POWER"
Here is link to the sinking of this vessel in December 1993 under the name "LILYMOO".

I haven't found anything else about her so far.

Thanks Martin, for this most interesting photo. Is there anybody who can shed some light on the origins of this ship?
