Description:

Van Nievelt, Goudriaan & Co. of Rotterdam's 1958 Hamburg built bulk carrier ASTEROPE was a frequent visitor to Avonmouth, for example arriving on 6th May 1964 with a cargo of grain from Trois-Rivières (Three Rivers). Here she is seen berthed on West Wharf 4, Avonmouth, on 24th March 1972 discharging a cargo of phosphate rock from Casablanca.

Logs loaded onto barges ready to be towed upriver to Lydney dock for the plywood factory there. Also interestingly is a Charles Hill built ex Regent tanker, at that time maybe the ex Regent Robin that became the Sand Robin after conversion to a sand dredger at Sharpness, why she would have been at Avonmouth I don't know.
