Description:

The 1954 Cammell Laird, Birkenhead, built IRIS, owned by M.D.Paleocrassas from Stenies, Andros Island, outbound in Eastham Channel on 18th May 1974, exactly fifty years ago today, at the start of a voyage from Partington for Durban with a cargo of soda ash, one of many shipped under a contact of affreightment.

IRIS was built as DORIS for clients of S.G.Embiricos and purchased by Paleocrassas early in 1973

At the end of 1981, IRIS was sold to G.Kollias of Athens to trade as KASTRO K. until suffering engine problems after sailing from Hamburg for India on 16 April 1982 and putting into Piraeus. By March 1984, adequate repairs were made to allow her to load a final cargo at Constantza as STEPON. Following discharge, she was scrapped at Gadani Beach.
