Served as 5 then 4th R/O on Orcades (tripod mast) then as Chief R/O on Methane Progress a couple of years later. Pity it's not the Progress as it would be just the photo for my album! I remember the princess being alongside when we docked Orcades. Probably 1964

Which old Orient Liner were you after?

Ken/Ralph, according to Neil McCart's book "Passenger Ships of the Orient Line", the Orient ships started losing their 'corn' hull colours in 1964, starting with ORONSAY then ORCADES in 1964 and ORSOVA in '65. ORIANA, which I don't think ever came to Tilbury, changed colour in late 1964.

Hi Ralph,

Yes it was the Orcades, a fine ship, built 1948 bu 1973.

Orient was transferred to P&O in 1962, I am not sure of the exact date they were painted white but 1966 could be about right but someone will tell you I am sure.

Regards
Ken

Which Orient liner is that in the background, ORCADES? And, what year did the Orient ships get repainted with the white hull, wasn't it 1966?

Hi Phil, it is not the same these days, that berth is crumbling now.

Kind regards
