The liberty ship SS Robert Erskine is not it, sank near the harbor entrance.

As @Yvon Perchoc said The FLEETBANK was completed in 1953 and had the engine amidships, below the accommodations (ship coded P2). Cf the book 'British Tramps' page 397.

It seems to me that it is the FLEETBANK - IMO 5116206

I thought that they were talking about FLEETBANK - IMO 7225934, but since FLEETBANK - IMO 5116206 was mentioned, then of course the engine room is at the aft. I think that in order to identify the remains of this ship, need a photo of it before dismantling at this place or drawings of FLEETBANK - IMO 5116206 with sections to compare with the location of the bulkheads of various compartments. In Bizerte, I only had a chance to visit the dry docks, where I looked for traces of the presence of the Russian White Fleet in the 1920s and 30s. Of course, 80 years later, not a trace remained of it, although all the ships were dismantled for scrap in various parts of Bizerte.
I am very grateful to you for taking the trouble to identify this ship. If you identify FLEETBANK - IMO 5116206 in the remains of this ship, then it will be a great success to return to the historians of the English merchant fleet the continuation history this ship.
Kind regards, Vladimir

The FLEETBANK was completed on 1953 and had engine in the middle of the ship, under the accomodations (ship coded P2). Cf the book 'British Tramps' page 397.

Hello Yvon,
I agree that the width of the hull of the ship in Bizerte does not correspond to the width of the frigate and degree of corrosion is similar to a long period.
In the case of FLEETBANK, it must be taken into account that the engine and boiler compartment was in the aft part.
Kind regards, Vladimir

Hello Vladimir,
When looking at the wreck at this position, on Google Earth scene dated January 2004, the lenght of the hull is about 125 m and the breadth 18 m which is different of the dimensions of the fregate PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA (93.27 x 11.15 m).
I tried to find some candidates :
- Liberty ship ROBERT ERSKINE wrecked at Bizerta on 1944 but seems to be have been BU at Genoa (https://vesselhistory.marad.dot.gov/ShipHistory/Detail/6215) Click on 'status cards' button.
- general cargo OSIA IRINI CHRYSOVALANDOU II (previous FLEETBANK) BU at Bizerta 1983. I don't know if she was beached or BU in a drydock ?
.... not exhaustive !
Regards,
Yvon
