Description:

Seen in floating drydock Dok RI-38:
CAPRICORN (IMO 9179658)
This photo is my documentary response to Mr. Petros Psarras ref. Forum topic: HSC Capricorn – Finally a superyacht....or nothing ?
The high speed vessel (HSV, 40 knots) ferry CAPRICORN was sold in 2010 by the Italian shipping company TIRRENIA to Turkish breakers.
In a short time this ferry was re-sold to one American businessman who had/has intention to convert her into a mega-superyacht and CAPRICORN was then towed to Zadar, Croatia (to the shipyard at Lamjane).
Remained at s/yard Lamjane for about 3 years and thereupon finally towed to Rijeka and shipyard Viktor Lenac where CAPRICORN had been drydocked on 24 September 2014.
Will CAPRICORN be converted to a mega-superyacht at shipyard Viktor Lenac, Rijeka ..... STILL REMAINS AN OPEN QUESTION

Seen in floating drydock Dok 5:
BARKALD (IMO 9233404)
Self discharging bulkcarrier

At shipyard Viktor Lenac, Rijeka, Croatia on 24 September 2014

I'm told - Apparently she was saved from the scrapyard. Renamed APRI in 2021. She was renamed Al GALALA for Egyptian owners that same year. She was renamed AL-GALALA EGY NAVY in 2022.

Yes, a 'broad and interesting history' filled with plenty of happening ..... but actually, she was only within a short period in commercial service (with TIRRENIA for only 10 years circa) :-)

Thank you for your comment Gianpaolo !
Cordiali saluti da Fiume (Rijeka),
Kind regards
Jadran

Jadran, there is no such "legal status" for ships as "dead". It's just a database shorthand.

IHS-Fairplay have "Converting/Rebuilding" since 10/2011 (and Equasis has the same as they are IHS-F are the source).

It does appear that she has been unregistered since 1/2012

@ davidships,, thank you for the provided additional info ... much interesting !
I personally didn't know the present name of the Registered owner (until you have mentioned it now).
However...this makes me wonder,, is the ship's current (legal) status indeed DEAD or maybe not !???
Kind regards,
Jadran
