Coming back to my comment from December 22nd: The designated name of the CMA CGM CHARLES LINDBERGH has been changed to CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE. Still in line with the explorer theme of the French Line's +16k teu ships.

Thanks for the update Jan, the names seem to keep changing!

Merry Christmas to all

@ Andrew: The names you state are not 100% correct. Actually the ships will be VASCO DA GAMA and ZHENG HE (Jiangnan) and BENJAMIN FRANKLIN(Waigaoqiao), as well as KERGUELEN, JAMES COOK and CHARLES LINDBERGH (Samsung). Plus the CMA CGM prefix of course. Official capacites are advertised as 17.8 Kteu (Maric) and 17.7 Kteu (Samsung), but frankly that is mostly marketing fluff. As I said earlier, I expect these ships to have 'real-life' capacities of 16.0 Kteu max.

Nice first shot as always Vlad,
The information I have is that she is the 1st of 6 vsls that CMA CGM are classing as 18,000TEU with actual capacities of around 17,700+
I believe 3 are being built at Samsung & 3 in China. Other vessels in the class are CMA CGM James Cook, CMA CGM Vasco da Gamma, CMA CGM Charles Lindenberg, CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin & CMA CGM Zheng He.
It interesting to see the almost daily updates from lines battling to have the largest cntr ship afloat!

Andrew

Thanks, Frank.

While CSCL went and officially upgraded the capacity of their latest and largest container vessels, obviously MSC was more secretive...until they revealed the total TEU capacity of the Oscar.
However, I do have some doubts on the numbers. :)
After all, with this new Route Specific Container Stowage notation, when it is no longer necessary to stow and secure containers as if it was Winter North Atlantic everywhere, the amount of empties they can put behind the bridge can be increased...somewhat.
But 20.000 TEU - that would require more than just tweaking the stowage on existing designs, IMHO.
Anyway, I too think that 20.000 TEU vessels are around the corner.

Hi Vlad,
Thanks again for another exclusive photo!!!. A report in Lloyds List during the last week reports MSC Oscar the largest at the moment with a capacity of 19244 teu. CSCL Globe 19100 but the vessels under construction for USAC will be of 19800 teu capacity if I remember correctly. Personally I think the last in the Triple E series will be Super Triple E's with a capacity well over 20000 teu. Rememder Emma Maersk series there ware a lot of speculation about their true capacity at that time and Maersk are normally tight lipped so to speak about their buisness. We will have to waite and see,
Best Regards

Frank

Thanks, Jan. I thought I saw something beginning with a "K" on her bridge... :) I will update the info accordingly.

Hi Vlad. She will be a ca 17,000 teu unit and her name will be CMA CGM KERGUELEN. Her dimensions are actually pretty similar to the MSC LONDON type, which i rate as 15,900 teu, but which MSC new markets as 16,864 teu. Realistically, I would consider CMA CGM KERGUELEN to be a 16,000+ ship.

...and they will obviously have some more: the ship on the picture does not look big enough to be a 18000 TEU vessel. But don't take my word for it: it's the gross tonnage/summer DWT that betray a 16000 teu vessel, same as, say, "MSC New York"...

16000 or 18000 teu ship?
