Hi René - very interesting photo - many thanks for posting. Graham - the Baune was indeed fully laden with bauxite - presume ore was salvaged once she was towed upriver after the fire. A sad accident where several lost their lives. Of the 77 on both ships, 61 were rescued by the USCG, 14 were lost on the Baune (12 crew / 2 passengers) and 2 on the Keytrader. The USCG report can be found here if interested in circumstances of collision and ensuing fire (which took 53 hours to extinguish): http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg545/docs/boards/keytrader.pdf

Well spotted Graham!

What is notable is that despite extensive fire damage to her hull and upperworks, her boot-topping appears not to be scorched. Does this mean she was loaded at the time of the accident and that her cargo was subsequently recovered ?
