Agree with you there. It is now eight years since the WSS published George's "40-Years-On" book. There are another eight years' worth of his excellent photos hidden away in the WSS archives many of which, because I was standing beside him, will be very similar to mine but taken with much better cameras. George appears in my shot of MOSDALE posted on this site.
Cheers

Hope all well with you, yes - it was the TSS trip to Piraeus, memorable for MASIR and many others and for an uncomfortable 20 minutes with the Piraeus port police (we got off lightly).
Mike, I completely agree re the George Garwood book - a great pity that the WSS seems not to want to challenge the monopoly that another publisher has with that format.

Long time no hear. Think 1985 was when we met up albeit Piraeus During my OE also had several Waterway jollies usually in good weather, and one of my more colourful shots was the other Hamburg-Sud "Samoa", the Tausala Samoa.

I remember a novel part of my trip was being able to access up-to-date Lloyds Indexes rather than the older issues that passed through various hands to get to the Antipodes

It must have been "Official Business" as your shot of TAMAITAI SAMOA appeared in Fairplay a few weeks later

Yes it was 1985. Actually some of the Kodachromes weren't that bad for such a dismal week.

Perhaps that cold and cloudy week was the first week in May 1985 - I was there for a fortnight and met you during the first week and Bob during the second (when the weather had improved a bit!).

Once in the mid 1980s had a week of very cold and cloudy weather in May - lots of ships though - slides not recoverable!
George Garwood's splendid WSS book does illustrate his luck there! Shame a second volume showing his work was not published.
