It certainly takes a confident and experienced captain for such challenging task.

On June 23, 2016 nearly 6 metres, the highest level shippin is allowed on the Rhine.
Denis, this are wakes from other vessels, there is one metre space left but the crew gets wet feet.
I think on the rhine, it is safe but not on the Ijsselmeer:

How safe is sailing like this? What if wakes from other vessels passing by & how do the crew go between bow & aft?

How deep is that waterway?

Hi Holedriller,
there are plimsoll lines on inland vessels.
The front section can operate independently for docking in harbours, main engine: 560 HP Cummins Verhaar, bowthruster: 760 HP Cummins Verhaar.
Best regards, Frank

Are there no plimsoll lines on inland vessels? Presumably the powered rear section has normal bilge pumps. Does the front section, which looks effectively like a dumb barge, have automatic operated pumps?
