More likely she needed to be patched up to make the tow to Aliaga possible.

Probably they discovered during drydock that it does not make sense to invest any $$$ in this ship

Thanks, so I remembered correctly.. strange thing to do, working on a long time abandoned ship just months before she is sent to the breakers.
