Arun Class lifeboat CCGC Sambro passing Halterm,outbound Halifax ,Nova Scotia on October 22nd 2009..
Stationed in Sambro at the approaches to Halifax.The area known as the Sambro Ledges, has witnessed more shipwrecks than any on the Atlantic Coast,and is second only to Sable Island,the "Graveyard of the Atlantic".
CCGC Sambro forms the nucleus of the Sambro Search and Rescue Station, which maintains a crew of 4 personnel on duty 24 hours per day (2 shifts) who are expected to be underway within 30 minutes of being tasked on a SAR operation by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Halifax

NOTE:
The Arun class lifeboat is used in the Royal National Lifeboat Institution all-weather fleet. The first three were built of wood, but apart from one other, the remainder were built of fibreglass. One was built of steel and was regarded as the best of the class in U.K. service.The Canadian vessels are of aluminum construction.
