ex - Helene Presthus - 72, Sabinia - 68
1973 : converted from bulk carrier to chemical tanker, forepart joined to stern of Escape.

that's the easy bit.

In 1982, abandoned by crew after fire broke out on 12th June
in position 44.40N, 20.40W on a voyage from Stanlow to Curacao. She was taken in tow for Barry, S. Wales.

She was then towed to Bremerhaven and cut in two at A. G. Weser, Seebeckwerke and the after part scrapped by Hanse Rohstoff. The forepart was joined to aft part of Universe Glory 68/10232, bbu, ex Dimitris E - 81, Belblue - 75 now : IMO # 6810756
the fore part Universe Glory was broken up.
the new vessel became a new Essi Silje. In 1992 renamed Aegean Mariner, 95 > Anchen, broken up India 1996.

Thanks for a great photo which brings back good memories!
This photo is of the original Essi Silje before the fire.
I will have to correct the editor which states following:
1973 : converted from bulk carrier to chemical tanker, forepart joined to stern of Escape. This is not correct both the forepart and the stern part on the original Essi Silje came from one ship! The Helene Presthus! I have in my younger days been sailing on these Bj. Ruud-Pedersen ships.

That's correct, I know about the lead tetyaethyl, it's why there was always a problem getting rid of these vessels ! - but there was always a chance of getting a shot of one of them at Eastham

Nice catch Allan,

She was used by Octel to transport anti-knock compounds Tetra Ethyl and Tetra Methyl Lead (TEL/TML), to oil refineries around the world to enable the production of leaded petrol. Nowadays, only very small quantities of TEL are produced for the production of Avgas aviation fuel and is transported in tanktainers.
