Description:

This was the very first steamship I ever saw and went on board, in 1979. She was preserved in an isolated dry-dock at the Welsh Industrial & Maritime Museum in Cardiff. This museum survived less than 25 years and closure was imminent when I took this photograph on 5-10-97. The tug was then cut-up where she lay. The engine and some auxiliary plant is in a store at Nant Garw.
The museum was sacrificed to make way for the new development of Cardiff's waterfront.
The Museum's replacement opens in Swansea this month for Trafalgar Day. I expect a poor imitation of an industrial museum.
