"Da Dan Xia" arrived at Bejaia, Algeria on 30/01/2010 from Antwerp with a Liebherr mobile harbour crane, weighing 350 tonnes, for the Bejaia Mediterranean Terminal.
During the discharge procedure a sudden squall (of Beaufort Scale 6), caused the crane to fall over the ship and quay, causing extensive damage.
The port operator raised a claim of €770,000 for the loss of the crane use.
The damaged crane has been shipped to Spain for repair.
Regards, Rick
