The Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan opened for the 2011 navigation season at 12:01am March 25. There were several Great Lakes bulkers lined up for the lock. The first vessel through the lock after sunrise was the Canadian flagged, 1952-built Ojibway of Lower Lakes Towing Ltd. Here she is just clearing the locks and passing under the international bridge to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Temperature is about zero degrees Fahr. which at least meant sunny skies.
