Description:

Cyprus-flag general cargo ship SILVER FIR as shown while entering the St.Lawrence Seaway near Montréal in December 1977. Built in 1956 as CEYLON MARU, she became SILVER FIR in 1974. She was the oldest "saltie" to transit the Seaway during the 1977 season.

Your info are correct Ilhan ,She had 2 sisters
CAMBERRA MARU and COLOMBO MARU ,i know that in 1985 all were in life, probably scrapped from 85 to 88.

Great photo Marc.i miss these type vessels.
looks like she renamed to Silk (78-80),Galaxy II (1980) and what happened to her i cant find.

I think this is a great Picture, probably because I was at sea in the early fifties I relate better to these old ship pictures. As usual your skill as a ship photographer shows through.

Hi Marc,
another famous memory for me. I saw her on my first visit to the North - Eastsea channel at Kiel one year earlier in 1976. She was one of 2 old general cargo ships at that day. Find enclosed my photo also at shipspotting, but at much less quality. I had a small pocket camera at that time (lack of money in my youth).
