Until today Jan Molsen was the biggest ferry ever built for service at Hamburg harbour and the first ship built for HADAG that was equipped with a diesel engine. She was doing service as a ferry at Hamburg harbour and used for excursions down the river Elbe to Brunsbüttel, Cuxhaven and even Kiel. In 1935 she had the doubtful honour to carry Adolf Hitler on such an occasion...
For a while after the war ended in 1945 she was Germany's biggest and fastest remaining passenger vessel.
Her service at Hamburg and on the Elbe river ended on July 1, 1967, when she had a collision with Swedish freighter SANTOS off Altonaer Landungsbrücken in which she was badly damaged.
On November 2, 1967, she was sold to Italy for service between Naples and the isle of Capri. Her new name then became ISOLA DI CAPRI.
She made another 21 years and was finally scrapped in 1988 near Naples...
Cheers
Jens
