Although ship enthusiasts - and even the shipowners’ marketing and publicity department – might want to call ANNE-SOFIE a heavy lift ship, officially, ie by the ship’s classification society – in this case Germanischer Lloyd – she is classed as (abridged version) “. . . Multi-Purpose Dry Cargo Ship . . . Equipped for Carriage of Containers, Strengthened for Heavy Cargo”.
She is one of the four ships built for SAL-Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land GmbH & Co, Steinkirchen, Germany to the J J Sietas Type 176 design. This features three cranes each of 700t SWL – not two 1,000 tonners as mentioned in the first comment. The two larger cranes feature in the later, Sietas Type 183 design, ordered by the same owner.
Although I have complained in the past about inaccuracies in Equasis’ classification of ships, it has only been in the identification of a certain type of tanker. I have been informed that Equasis does modify the info they get from IHSF in that particular case. Otherwise I have found no problems with Equasis and, as Mr Smith says, members should follow its lead in categorising the ships in the photos they post.

This is a debatable question irrespective of the cranes, we advise members to use Equasis for obtaining their information when uploading to the site, I am not claiming that Equasis are always correct, however they do get their information from IHS/Fairplay which is reputed to be reliable and in this particular case they quote this ship to be General Cargo, Germanischer Lloyd quote it as "Multi Purpose Dry Cargo".
So with this in mind and for the clarity of being able to search and avoid confusion we should class this ship according to Equasis as being General Cargo for uploading to the website.

Ken
