She really was one of the most beautiful ships ever built. Her reason for being built was as a showcase for nuclear energy and for American shipbuilding. That was 'her point'. Germany also had a nuclear powered merchant ship, the Otto Hahn. At that time nuclear power was seen as being the way forward. Remember, the Italian liner Leonardo Da Vinci was said to have been built with the capability of being converted to nuclear power.

I am always so much glad to see this extraordinary unique ship, that is the N/S "SAVANNAH", because my late uncle Erazmo Ben Ticac, a highly established Naval Architect in the United States, was the main designer/creator for the ship-shape of this legend beauty.
