Description:
In 1974/ 1975, the Lower Reaches of the Clyde were host to many laid up ships because of the deep water and Jim Gallacher has two excellent shots of UNIVERSE PORTUGAL when she laid up off Largs in 1975.
She was fully laden but laid up waiting work about the same time was SIR JOHN HUNTER, one of the series of 150000dwt ore/ oil carriers built on Tyne-side for various owners including the eventual ill fated LIVERPOOL BRIDGE/ DERBYSHIRE.
SIR JOHN HUNTER had a sister ship SIR ALEXANDER GLEN.

Thanks for your nice comment about the Universe Portugal shots, I just discovered it today as I was browsing your pictures of laidup tankers, I really like some of these older pictures.
Do you have any pictures of Shell Tankers?
Regards
Jim Gallacher

Both: I sailed with Shell between 1951 and 1956.
I was born in Paisley and emigrated to Canada in 1957.
Thanks for the fast response.
