The correct name of this ship is AÇORES. She was built in Sweden for the Svea Line but resold while fitting out to the COMPANHIA DE NAVEGAÇÃO CARREGADORES AÇOREANOS, of Ponta Delgada, Azores Islands. Used on the Lisbon Azores New York carga and passenger service until the early seventies. Transfered to Empresa Insulana de navegação in 1972 and to CTM in 1974. In that photograph she was being operated by PORTLINE under charter from CTM. She was purchased by PORTLINE later in 1985 and renamed PEDRO REINEL. Used on the Rotterdam - Lisbon - Cape Verde - Guinea Bissau service for a short while...

she is looking much like the former German OPDR vessel Gran Canaria, bt. 1957, grt. 2885.
