I sailed on deck on her as E.D.H JOINED HER 29/05/68 Southampton left 15/101968 Southampton. We were on her the same time as you Doug. I have a few photos of the engineers at Smoko on the Poop deck and the R.A.S we did with the RFA Orangeleaf. What a trip not many have experienced what we did. Please get in touch as you could be on the photos. Regards, Karl Daneil Wismann known as Danny from Cardiff.

Hi Doug,
Perhaps the radioactive air took her paint off :-))
Its not a great photo scan but its looks a lot better than the faded original. Hope it bought back some memories.

Regards

Bob

Bob,
Can confirm this is the former Empire Athelston,Benalbanach,
and Camelot.
This was my first ship, joined 15-5-68 as a lowly JEO,managed
by BISN for Min of Defence, name Camelot.
Spent the Summer steaming round the Pacific with Bods from
Aldermaston and RN monitoring the French atomic tests.
Looks like the photo is taken of her on Husbands Jetty,
Marchwood.
Doug.

Hello Robert.
I think she is a sistershp of EMPIRE CANUTE, built 1945
Min. of Transport, London,UK. Sold to Belships, former Christen Smith & Co., Oslo 1945 and named BELOCEAN.
The company had sevral heavy lift ships, one of them BELKARIN, which I sailed on.
Regards,
Roar
