A motor merchant built for Alfred Holt and Co., Liverpool by Scott’s Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd., Greenock and completed during April 1924.
On 5 May 1943, under the command of Master Gilbert Robert Cheetham, she was sailing as part of Convoy ONS-5 on voyage Avonmouth to New York in ballast when at 14.00 hours she was torpedoed and sunk by U-638 north-east of Belle Isle.
Three crew members and one gunner were lost while the master, 57 crew members and 8 gunners were picked up by HMS Sunflower and landed at St. Johns.
Immediately after the sinking the corvette HMS Sunflower hunted down U-638 and sank her with the loss of all 44 hands.
