@Denis: its funny that you mention that. Stephen Payne(QM2 designer) specifically did NOT put any sort of lounge above the bridge, because as far as he knew, no purpose-built Cunard queen had ever had one prior. his logic was that the bridge is supposed to be "summit" of the ship, if you will. the highest vantage point from which she is to be navigated. the compartment above the bridge on the QM2 houses elevator machinery only.

although, to be fair, the QE isnt really a "purpose built" Queen, since she is a modified Vista-class, and wasnt designed from the ground up as a true ocean liner.

Unlike previous Elizabeths st least they literally "crowned" this one to make her look more queen-ish. I'm not sure if that good or bad thing.

Dear Mr DOT, it seems that almost every time someone posts a picture of this ship you bemoan the fact that 'how unlike her namesake she is.' But 70 years separate them and one was built purely to operate, year round on the Southampton to New York service, whilst the other more recent ship, was built as a full-time cruise ship. Yes, she could have been more beautiful, more graceful but the simple fact is that the Vista-class ships and derivations of that class are hugely successful as 'cruise machines'- otherwise Carnival would not continue to have them churned out for each of its subsidiaries. OK, so I accept that just because they are successful doesn't mean that we have to like them but the original Queen Elizabeth and the present one are two totally different things and there is nothing to be achieved by making comparisons.
