Built 1937 by Vickers Armstrong, Barrow, as Stratheden for P&O SN Co.

23,722 grt. 2ST-20 knots.

She was the first overseas passenger ship to visit Stewart Island in 1961, a regular event today, the latest and largest being Holland America's Volendam in 2010.

1964 sold to J.S. Latsis, r/n HENRIETTA LATSI

1966 r/n MARIANNA LATSI. Same owners.

1969 BU La Spezia 19.5.69

The old time Strath liners were very common visitors to the Port of Adelaide and Sydney (my birth town) in the 50's and early 60's I loved watching them come in and leave from Outer Harbor and Circular Quay...looking back on those days, I remember the streamers, the brass bands, loads of well wishers to see the ship off etc. yes, they were great times Mr Dot
