Luko, I'm sorry for the delayed reply. Thanks for your wonderful comment!:-)

Hi Roland, it sure was. Personally I think she has a quite classical look for a rather modern cruise ship. Earning her money... well, from what I've heard lately she has her problems earning enough money at the moment.:-O

Spectacular photo Jens! Thanks for sharing

Sure it was a splendid return in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, though MV Deutschland is not kind of a goodlooking ship, her design very simply nothing breathtaking on her...but ok still she earns her money..;-)

Perfect shot, Jens!
Good historic moment to be saved for the fututre.

Vielen Dank, Arne!

Rick, thanks for your kind words! - No, I didn't offer it to Bild (and they haven't asked yet, either). There was a whole flotilla of all kinds of boats escorting her into Hamburg harbor, so I guess Bild has got its own photo...
And no, there's no problem with excess water, Rick. They're testing a new water-kickback-engine!:-D
I don't think the five stars are for the London Olympic Games... if so it would have to be 5 stars plus!

Best regards
Jens

Hi Jens, you have certainly grasped the moment well, a proud nation wellcoming back. Sports persons whom have
made their nation proud of them and their achievments
all the very best Fernley.

Edit

person
Jens, that really is a very fine photo commemorating a very special occasion. Well done. A photo to be proud of... did you offer it to Bild for publication??
It seems they are having problems at the rear of the vessel with excess water....maybe there is a new Wave Rider which has gone kaput......... :-0
And the 5 stars on the funnel? For the London Olympic Games, of course!
Regards, Rick %~)

I understand, Henk. I'd have preferred a place aboard the ship, too. - And don't worry too much, I'm confident all will turn out fine:-)

Edit

Unfortunitly it must be Bubendey Ufer (I hope, if that Great Survey I told you before is well done).

Bob, thanks for your kind comment! - Yes, Ken, it would have sounded quite strange: Deutschland, home port Malta!:-) You're lucky, it seems at least one photo has "survived" the crashes. Today I noticed that in addition to her altered funnel mark there are five stars below the logo. Does that suggest she's rated 5 stars as a cruise ship? Judging from the prices of cruising aboard her I would expect that!:-D

Hi Jens,

I had heard about the re-flagging to Malta and am pleased that it fell through, ridiculous idea for a German ship with a name such as that.
I guess my photos disappeared as a result of the crashes in the past, quite a few are missing, she had a different funnel mark in those days.
Kind regards
Ken

person
Henk and Ken, thanks for your nice compliments! MS Deutschland was the cause of some excitement just la†ely over here in Germany. Deilmann wanted to reflag her from Germany to Malta (I think) to reduce costs. In the end the company didn't succeed and thus she remains the only cruise liner under German flag.

Ken, a pity the photos vanished. Ok, I think she didn't look much different in 2004, but nevertheless I like to see photos of ships I know, too, that were taken before I started ship photography.

Henk, what do you mean by "this will be my place next Ascension Day"? Bubendey Ufer or MS Deutschland?:-)

Kind regards
Jens

Great shot Jens and a fitting climax to the great event, she is always a welcome sight on her visits to the Thames, I had some of her on the site taken in 2004 at Greenwich but they seem to have vanished.

Kind regards
Ken

Vielen Dank, Dirk!

Edit

person
Jens, ganz tolle Bilder! Die Massen haben mich gebremst, sonst wäre ich gern dabei gewesen, aber so - lieber am TV. Und es ist wieder einmal ein Beweis dafür, daß Peter Deilmann mit der Namenswahl recht hatte! Daumen hoch!

Yes, it was and still is. Right now there's a big party with thousands of people at Hamburg Cruise Center (it's even broadcast live on TV here). - I'm not the emotional type, but when she passed Bubendey Ufer, sounding her horn, the people aboard waving hello... it was an extraordinary moment.
