A fine old tugboat celebrating her 70th birthday this year, the JESSE of Salmon Bay Barge Line is seen moored on a side channel of the Duwamish River in south Seattle. She began life in 1942 as the US Navy harbor tug NESUTAN (YT-338), eventually being transferred to the US Army as LT-1928 in 1950. Her military career ended in 1960, and she began commercial service which now, 52 years later, still continues.
