IMO 5372094

Built 1952 as for British India.

1955 white hull.

1967-1968 converted to School Ship, to join Devonia and Nevasa, a very successful operation in 1960's/1970's.

1972 to P and O.

29/8/1976 grounded off Dundee.

1978 her most successful year as School Ship.

10/4/1982 requisitioned at Alexandra for use as hospital ship during Falklands War. Her first patient was her Master who died of a heart attack.

13/7/1982 ceased to be a hospital ship arrived back at Portsmouth,9/8/1982.

reverted to School Ship until 1983

1983-1985 chartered by UK Government as Troop Transport between Ascension Island and Port Stanley.

25/4/1985 laid up in Fal.

1986 sold and renamed Triton.

20/5/1986 left Fal for breaking up at Koahsiung, but wrecked 22/8/1986 during Cylcone while awiting cutting up

During her time sailing on educational cruises, in which guise she is shown here), Uganda sailed to the Baltic and other Scandinavian countries, the Atlantic islands and the Mediterranean. She never made any cruises out to Australia or from Australia. Given that the educational aspect of her cruises were aim at schools in the UK, with around 300 cabin passengers, Australia- based cruises would have been prohibitively expensive. So no, this picture cannot have been taken at Melbourne.

Kenya she operated a UK East Africa service.
This photo is after her refit as a School cruise ship,note
the extra lifeboats.Never sailed to Australia as a School ship.
